The YEFFA Project focuses on empowering youth (18–35 years) and women through opportunities in the sunflower value chain. Implemented by 360 Connect, the project contributes to closing Tanzania’s edible oil gap by engaging young people in sunflower farming, processing, aggregation, and agribusiness.

Why Sunflower?

Tanzania imports around 55% of its edible oil due to a mismatch between demand (650,000 MT) and local production (290,000 MT). The sunflower sector offers a huge opportunity for job creation, value addition, and rural enterprise growth, especially for youth and women.

What the Project Does

  • Mapping SMEs & Youth: Profiling youth, youth groups, and SMEs in the sunflower value chain.

  • Decent Jobs Tracking: Developing a framework to monitor youth access to formal and informal employment, entrepreneurship, and agribusiness opportunities.

  • Youth Inclusion: Supporting the formation and formalization of youth groups in sunflower production and processing.

  • Capacity & Insights: Identifying barriers, enablers, and best practices for youth participation, while assessing job quality and entrepreneurial opportunities.

  • Digital Tool: Creating a dashboard to track and visualize youth engagement in sunflower agribusiness.
